It wasn't until I became an “adult” that I realized how important my mental health is, especially in my 20’s. Mental health is more than just the brain. It includes our emotional, psychological and social well-being. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices.
Life is like a roller coaster at times, filled with so many ups and downs. It’s crazy because we never know what to expect, well, besides the unexpected. In the past I would find myself over eating, feeling sluggish, moody and feeling hopeless when life seemed overwhelming and stressful. Although I would do this often to cope, I was only hurting myself more. I’m a Sagittarius, we're very private when it comes to business and situations in life. For years I would bottle everything up and lash out once I was fed up, only to make the situation worse.
Now, I’ve learned to embrace my feelings rather then brush them off. Sadness isn’t a sign of weakness, its an emotion that all of us experience from time to time. As crazy as this may sound, crying makes me feel better (I honestly believe I cry every week lol). Crying allows me to get all of my frustrations out, which is usually followed by giving myself a nice little pep talk to move past it.
A positive mental health allows us to realize our full potential, cope with the stresses of life and work productively. With that being said, if you’re feeling overwhelmed and self doubt, here are a few tips to help overcome those feelings: connect with others, get physically active, get enough sleep and most importantly stay positive. We all feel overwhelmed and stressed at times but don’t give up. Remember you’re an amazing person with a purpose, grow through what you go through. It’s only temporary, you’ve got this!
